i really don’t see why canucks fans have their panties all up in bunches over a comment that is more of a fact than a “classless” chirp. stop being so egocentric, you’re not “canada’s team”… other fanbases/provinces in canada (and in the states too) are jealous of your team’s success and would…
- That tweet was not a fact. There are people across the country (and around the world) that support the Canucks. For example, I am a Canucks fan that currently lives in the Maritimes.
- Not all of us think we’re “Canada’s team”. I certainly don’t think so, especially with the amount of hate we get from fans of other Canadian teams.
- Yes, our team has unlikeable players, just like every other team. And if “fans” means “rioters”, that is a mistake, because those people were not fans. They went Downtown for the sole purpose of rioting. Real fans were incredibly disappointed with the actions of a select few and many went out the next day to help clean up. And just like with players, every team has likeable and unlikeable fans.
- I don’t care about being liked. I just want to be respected. People can respect someone they dislike.
- People outside of high school also have feelings. In fact, everyone has feelings. For example, this post expressed frustration, which is an emotion.
- The tweets by @VanCanucks or @canucksgame, have never been like that LA Kings tweet. Their funny and witty tweets have never been condescending towards the losing team.
I normally don’t bother responding to these things, but the OP seems like a reasonable person and made some good points (e.g people are jealous of the team’s success). But I feel like it was suspicious timing considering I just wrote an entry on “hurt feelings”.
I hope I didn’t start a flame war…
obviously i’m aware that there are canucks fans all over the world, i don’t live under a rock. you must be a new hockey fan if you don’t understand that disrespect and hate come with the territory of being a top nhl team, especially when they’re not very likable outside of their fanbase. you’re blessed with a talented team, a little disrespect/ridicule from others is a small price to pay for being a fan. my main point was just for people to laugh it off or toughen up. there are bigger issues in the world than one sassy “unprofessional” tweet that a large number of people clearly agreed with. we’re all hockey fans at the end of the day, deep down we all respect each other for appreciating the sport. chirping is just a part of being a fan, it can be fun/competitive if you have a sense of humour or offend you if you’re a buzzkillington.
